Learning through infographics

Hey buddies!
Recently I'm learning a lot of amazing resources for our primary classes and I'm always willing to share all of them with you.
Today I'm going to talk you about infographics.Basically, they are a mixture of images and texts which are intended to convey information visually in order to make comprehension easier. As you can imagine, it is specially suitable for primary classes since you can introduce or review any kind of content, explain projects or activities or describe processes engagingly.
Infographics must be eye-catching and visual so it's necessary to select carefully and concisely the text we're going to add since visual aids such as pictures, videos, maps or diagrams must predominate.
My infographic is intended to explain the lifecyle of a butterfly to third graders and it is really helpful to contextualize the topic and visualize the different stages of the metamorphosis through pictures and a explanatory video. As we saw in this entry, images and videos provide effective support in order to reinforce contents and facilitate their understanding.Visual aids also allow students to improve oral skills by using their vocabulary and acquiring new one through descriptions, for example.
I chose a tool called Piktochart in order to craft my first infographic. As usual you have to create an account and sign it, then you are going to find a very intuitive, convenient and neat website.I took a look at other tools but I decided to use Piktochart because it only contains the necessary icons and are well-organized which is useful, otherwise it can be overwhelming.
On the left side, there is an upright toolbar where you can choose different backgrounds, shapes, cartoons, maps and props organized by themes. You can upload your own pictures and videos, but what I particularly liked is that Picktochart offers you a wide variety of really amazing resources completely free such as good pictures of several themes ( nature, animals, geography, scenes...) and cool props, consequently crafting a infographic is an enjoyable and creative process. In addition, you can make infographics collaboratively and share them. Due to the fact that it is an easy and intuitive tool, it can be used by primary students which would imply an enriching educational activity since they should identify key information, organize it logically, pick up suitable images to illustrate concepts or processes and so on.This management of knowledge and contents enables students to become the protagonists of their own learning process and consequently, to improve their self-confidence.
The main disadvantage of Picktochart is this slowness when performing several changes in short time, but this old panda bear is already used to this kind of tools so keep calm and make infographics because the result is worth it.
